New Orleans trumpeter, composer, producer, and instrument designer Christian Scott, also known as Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah (in 2011, he de-Westernized his name with these two extensions, names from the Ghanaian, as a nod to suppressed histories), makes Stretch Music. Jazz-trained, he stretches and marries the seemingly disparate sounds of Trap Music (Southern hiphop, mixed with techno, dub, and dutch house), traditional West African percussion and New Orleanian Afro-Native American styles.

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah is also intent on using music as political protest to confront social issues, key among them are - Slavery in America via the Prison Industrial Complex, Food Insecurity, Xenophobia, Immigration, Climate Change, Sexual Orientation, Gender Equality, Fascism and the return of the Demagogue- to name exactly all of the concerns cited on his Bandcamp page. His latest record is Ruler Rebel, the first in his Centennial Trilogy of releases to mark the first jazz recordings and he joins us to play some of this Stretch Music live.
